Past tense in English is one of those things that sounds simple — it happened, it’s over, done, right? Well… kind of.
English actually has four past tenses, and each one tells a slightly different story about how something happened in the past. Was it a habit? A finished action? Something that was interrupted? Something that happened before another past thing?
Each of those gets its own form. Don’t panic though — two of them are super common and you’ll use them constantly. The other two are more like bonus tools that make your English sound really polished once you add them in.
